EXPERIENCE DINSLAKEN...

Tourism in Dinslaken? Does that fit together? We say "yes" and convince our guests of the advantages of our town

Admittedly, Dinslaken is not a classic tourist region, but there is a lot to discover here - you will be surprised! The proximity of our town to the metropolitan areas of the Ruhr and Rhineland is simply unbeatable. At the same time, Dinslaken offers the advantages of the Lower Rhine with lots of countryside, fantastic cycle paths and quiet places. We can even call 400 metres of the Rhine our own.

In Dinslaken, you don't have to decide whether you want to take a quiet short trip into the countryside or prefer a lively city. Dinslaken offers both and that is our advantage. It's not for nothing that we see ourselves as "The Green Gateway to the Ruhr" at the meeting point of the beautiful Lower Rhine and the lively metropole Ruhr.

Do you fancy an old town with historic buildings, beautiful squares with their very own charm, cycling tours, good shopping opportunities, the garden city of Lohberg as a historic miners' settlement, a former colliery site in transition and exciting events such as the "FANTASTIVALl"? Then you've come to the right place. Take a short trip or day trip that starts right "on your doorstep" - without a long journey. You are very welcome in Dinslaken. We look forward to seeing you!

CYCLING AND HIKING

Visitors and nature lovers will get their money's worth on a hike, a walk or a bike ride along the Rhine. On both sides of the Rhine, there are several nature reserves, which get their special character from hedges and the typical Lower Rhine pollarded willows. Numerous animal and plant species threatened by extinction find their home here.

From the Rhine, you can reach Dinslaken along both the Rotbach and the Emscher. There are marked and well-maintained paths along both watercourses that reveal very unique landscapes. While the Emscher Cycle Path runs in the south of Dinslaken and then continues for a total of 101 kilometres through the Ruhr region, connecting numerous impressive contemporary witnesses of industrial culture, the Rotbach flows through the middle of the city of Dinslaken. Ride along the watercourse on winding paths and discover sights and restaurants along the way.

If you follow the Rotbach further to the idyllic Rotbachsee lake and beyond, you will enter the Hohe Mark Nature Park - one of the largest nature parks in North Rhine-Westphalia with a long network of cycle paths and hiking trails.

For example, you can start a beautiful hike through the nature reserve "Hiesfelder Wald" along a thematic circular route or a bicycle tour along the Rotbach stream from the Rotbachsee to its source at the Grafenmühle.

Orientation in Dinslaken and the surrounding area is simplified by the signpost system established in the Lower Rhine and the Ruhr area. In Dinslaken alone, 12 posts, which can be found at cycle path intersections, show the way to the next marker. You can always orientate yourself by the numbers that have been attached to the corresponding signposts. This way you can plan your next cycle tour from the comfort of your own home. If you do need an overview map, you will also find one at the marker. Large maps provide an overview of the immediate surroundings and the most important signposts in the vicinity. Cycling tours have never been so easy!

The team at the city information office at the knight's gate will be happy to help you plan your hiking or cycling tour. There are numerous small and large tours in and around Dinslaken, for which you can acquire the relevant maps and many other tips there.

CULTURE AND EVENTS

Culture lovers get their money's worth in Dinslaken. Our town has a varied and colourful cultural life. Popular venues such as the Burgtheater, the Kathrin-Türks-Halle or the roof studio of the city library offer a varied programme. From amateur theatre to the Christmas market: exciting cultural events of today against the historical backdrop from yesterday.

And there is always something happening on Dinslaken's stages. Dinslaken is home to the Burghofbühne, the regional theatre in the Wesel district. Its premieres and performances are an integral part of cultural life and always worth a visit.

Connoisseurs of jazz music can also look forward to exquisite national and international jazz artists. The Jazz-Initiative Dinslaken e.V. and the concerts it organises have a firm place in Dinslaken's cultural landscape. And the Ledigenheim, the former "Bullenkloster" in Lohberg, has also established itself as a centre for culture, services and business in and for Dinslaken. Numerous cultural events, such as concerts, theatre performances and conferences, take place in the technically well-equipped event hall.

The cultural life is essentially supported by a large scene of freelance cultural workers and musical-cultural associations and groups. In addition, a large number of bands stir up the local, but also national music scene from here.

Numerous highlights in Dinslaken's events year ensure that there is never a dull moment. From funfairs to sporting events such as the "Stadtwerke Dinslaken Energy Run" or the Niederrheinischer Radwandertag (Lower Rhine Cycling Day) to Sunday shopping and the popular Feierabendmarkt (after-work market) – there's something for everyone!

The highlight of each year is certainly the FANTASTIVAL, which is known far beyond the city limits. Thanks to the commitment of Freilicht AG, the first and only public share company for miles around. The open-air festival in Dinslaken's old Burgtheater offers a mix of rock, pop, musical, classical music, children's theatre, readings and cabaret for ten days. Highlights in recent years have included Milow, Michael Patrick Kelly, Anastacia, Gregor Meyle, Amy MacDonald, Tom Jones, Herbert Knebel and Christoph Maria Herbst.

But that's not all: the Dinslaken town festival, the DIN Days, gets the whole of Dinslaken town centre in the mood for celebration. Every year on the last weekend in August the festivities offer a programme for the whole family and attracts visitors with a varied stage and music programme. Besides, visitors can find culture and culinary delights in the Fair KulturCafé in the inner courtyard of the castle.

And at the end of the year, the last big funfair on the Lower Rhine, the Martinikirmes takes place. The event attracts many visitors to Dinslaken in November.

SHOPPING

Dinslaken has something for everyone: a colourful range of retail outlets for a stroll from the historic old town via Neustraße to the "Neutor Galerie" shopping centre, attractive restaurants and cafés. Moreover, it offers a varied cultural programme in the old town or the other numerous event venues.

The strength of the city centre is its diversity. The lively Neustraße is the main shopping street with a good mix of family-owned businesses and chain shops. The attractive old town is home to specialist stores and gastronomic offerings in particular. Fortunately, it has been able to retain its old town charm to this day. A modern addition to the city centre is the shopping centre "Neutor Galerie". It is located on Neutorplatz and offers around 16,500 m² of retail space.

The Hiesfeld district centre also offers an almost complete range of goods and is not only popular with the people of Hiesfeld. The strengths of the district centre lie in a large number of owner-managed shops, the wide range of products and the village character.
