The Concept

Virtual Cultural Capital

Strengthening regionalisation through digitalisation

IDEA

Without culture, technical progress would be impossible: Albert Einstein never went to the Institute without his violin. When he got stuck on his theories, he played. He was not only a great scientist but also an outstanding violinist who drew inspiration from Mozart.

Culture must not be deprived of technical advances in the process of globalisation and digitalisation. Through CultureTotal's "Virtual Cultural Capital" project, selected partner cities will be able to present their cultural institution's programme online. In this way, not only residents and cultural tourists but a much larger target group can be reached.

In addition to classic venues, old "new" cultural venues such as historic or modern churches with their unique spatial concepts could be accessed virtually by a new and young audience.

Through the digitalisation of culture, nations and religions - regardless of distance, ideologies and purchasing power - can be connected. Thus international understanding can succeed much more easily.

Promoting creative and cultural industries through digitalisation

ADVANTAGES

  • New paths and opportunities for cultural institutions
  • Greater cultural diversity through digitisation
  • Reaching a larger and more diverse audience such as young and old, new and digitally affine target groups etc.
  • Cultural education in schools or kindergartens can take place digitally, events or rehearsals can also be broadcasted in educational institutions
  • Strengthening digitalisation also in the non-profit sector, for example, libraries can stream reading series
  • Cultural associations or institutions can benefit from new members
  • Social commitment, social cohesion and the identification of residents with the city or region are strengthened
  • New social and economic perspectives are offered, which lead to an improvement of the location factors
  • Image gain through cultural offerings: Cultural diversity is strengthened and more (day) tourists visit the city and region.
  • New organisers and artists can be made aware of the local cultural institutions
  • Possibility of national cooperation with other cultural enterprises and business associations

REALISATION

  • The season begins in May
  • The Virtual Cultural Capital has the CultureTotal cultural streaming portal at its disposal, which showcases virtual events to the audience in top quality
  • For the realization, the city or region needs one or more CultureTotal technology packages
  • The packages are easy to transport and can be passed on flexibly between cultural institutions. The LTE antenna supplied also allows open-air events to be streamed
  • Six weeks before the first event of the partnership, the promotion of the event begins
  • In cooperation with its partners Telekom and Eventim, CultureTotal will develop concepts to highlight the Virtual Cultural Capital in the media.
  • With CultureTotal, events can be made accessible either for free or by purchasing a ticket. It is up to the Cirtual Cultural Capitals to decide whether they charge admission or not.
  • CultureTotal places all events with Eventim and takes care of all the details, right up to the billing.
  • Depending on the agreement between the city and CultureTotal, the earnings will be transferred to the organisers. They only have to cover the regular fees such as Gema, KSK and other organiser costs as well as the artist salaries themselves.

Digitisation offers new opportunities for cultural institutions and artists

SELECTION

To be selected as a Virtual Cultural Capital, the following conditions must be met:

  • The city or region should have a colourful cultural landscape.
  • A programme of at least 60 events per year should be feasible - these can be hybrid events as well as pure online streams.
  • The city or region should present a precise concept of why it should be considered as a Virtual Capital Culture and where its cultural focus lies.
  • In order to be able to implement the project as unbureaucratically as possible, CultureTotal requires at least one project team made up of cultural associations, cultural offices, artists' groups or the like. In this way, an artistic team will be put together jointly.

CultureTotal sees much more potential in the digital sector of cultural institutions than has been exploited to date. In cooperation with Telekom and the ticket service Eventim, the CultureTotal team offers a cultural streaming portal that brings virtual events to the audience in top quality. "Currently, many cultural event organisers fail to implement streams because of the financial or organisational effort involved," says the founder of CultureTotal, Dr. Majid Montazer. "We offer all services from technology to marketing from a single source. We encourage large and small institutions to go digital and enable them to offer their events at reasonable prices."
